Most of the time, I have an idea for a new piece and then decide on the yarn I'm going to use. But with the Cannon Cowl, I had the yarn first. I had a few yarn cakes sitting in my yarn stash that I had picked up on a yarn shopping trip I had 4 cakes, each in a different colorway, so I knew I needed to develop a one-cake pattern.
I had also been experimenting with puff and bean stitches. Once I put them together, the Canon Cowl was born. Then I tested the idea on a larger cake, and that resulted in the Cannon Infinity Scarf. Both are versatile and beautiful scarves using just one cake of yarn, making them an ideal project for using up those single cakes you might have in your stash.

The Yarn
The cowl pattern was designed for Premier Sweet Roll yarn cakes. I had Silver Swirl, Blueberry Swirl, Mulberry, and Raspberry Swirl in my stash. I've made the cowl in all 4 and they are all beautiful, but the Silver Swirl (shown) and the Mulberry are my favorites. When you match the gauge each color gets its own row. No jarring color changes mid-row. This creates a smooth and visually pleasing transition between colors.
I used Caron Big Cake in the color Cake Pop for the longer infinity scarf. Because this cake has longer sections of colors, you still avoid the jarring color changes mid-row.

Construction
The cowl & companion infinity scarf is worked in the round but turned as if you were working the piece flat.
By turning the piece after each row, the cowl doesn’t curl in on itself, and there is no seaming required. This method not only simplifies the construction process but also ensures a beautiful finished piece.
Customization
One of the best things about this pattern is its versatility. You can choose your favorite medium-weight cake yarn or opt for a single solid color to make this scarf the perfect accessory for you from fall through to spring.
