Washcloths are such a quick and easy way to use up those partial skeins of cotton yarn. They’re practical, inexpensive to make, and a fun way to add some homemade charm to your kitchen.
This Herringbone Double Crochet Washcloth pattern is great for crocheters who want to learn a new stitch. The Herringbone Double Crochet is one of my favorites—it gives the washcloth fantastic texture and a beautiful weave.
You can find the free pattern below or purchase the full pattern in an easily printable PDF here or here.

The Yarn!
These washcloths are made with the tried‑and‑true Lily Sugar ’n Cream. It may not be as popular as some of the other cotton yarns on the market, like Lion Brand 24/7, or Caron All Day Cotton—both of which would work well for this pattern—but I have a soft spot for Lily. I love the colors, and although it can feel stiff when you first start working with it, it softens beautifully in the wash. Plus, the durability is unmatched, in my opinion.
If you cannot find Lily's Sugar 'n Cream, then Peaches 'n Creme or Loops & Threads Classic Cotton are near identical substitutions.

Customization
You can make the washcloth in a solid color, which will use slightly less yardage.
NOTE: If you choose to make the solid color washcloth, skip the color changes and work all 15 rows in one color.
I have also included instructions for a larger washcloth in the paid pattern. You can find the links to that below.
