Once the calendar switches to November, I start counting down to when I put up my tree & holiday decorations. My tree is full of ornaments that hold memories - places we've been, gifts from family & friends, and ones from both my husband & my childhoods. And some of the most cherished ones are those my mother & grandmother made.

The Snow Ornament can start (or continue) a wonderful holiday tradition of handmade ornaments that can passed down. This pattern works up so fast, you have plenty of time to make a whole tree's worth or one for everyone on your gift list!
You can find the free pattern below or purchase the full pattern in an easily printable PDF here or here.

This is a great Advanced Beginner pattern. You will need to be familiar with working in the back loop of stitches.
The Yarn!
I used Caron Super Soft Party, because I had some in my stash already, and I wanted my ornaments to have a shimmer. This yarn is a little finicky as the metallic thread can break, so it may take some practice to get the hang of it. If you'd rather a less finicky yarn, any category 4 - Medium / Worsted Weight yarn that matches your style will work
Other options that work well:
Loops & Threads Impeccable Tweeds
Red Heart Super Saver Metallic
Big Twist Twinkle or Tweed or Value
Lion Brand Heartland
Supplies:
Caron Simply Soft Party: 30-50 yds
US 8/H (5.00 mm) crochet hook
Tapestry needle
2.36" clear ornament (I got mine from Amazon)
Optional:
Ribbon
Embellishments such as floral picks, bows, berries, twine
Glue gun or glue to attach embellishments
Gauge: 5 sts x 2 rows = 1" square
Finished Size: 3" x 5.75" before seaming
Pattern Notes:

Fasten Off, leaving a long tail
Thread tail onto tapestry needle and sew foundation chain to Row 12, forming a tube. Weave the remaining tail in & out around the tube and cinch to close & secure.

Turn piece so right side is facing out (seam should be on inside now)
Insert ornament, piece will stretch to fit, and with another piece of yarn weave in and out around the top and cinch to close. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Customizations
Aside from the yarn choice, my favorite customization is to alternate between red & white every two rows (work two rows in red, work two rows in white) to give you a peppermint ornament.
Leave plain for a classic traditional look, or glue embellishments like pinecones, evergreen sprigs, holiday ribbon or bows for an ornament that is uniquely you.
