The Cranmore Scarf was designed with my mother in mind. She dislikes the bulkiness of traditional scarves under her coat and finds infinity scarves uncomfortable around her neck. My goal was to create a scarf that would keep her neck warm without the feeling of being wrapped tightly and would sit flat under her coat without too much fuss.
Initially, I designed a couple of keyhole scarves, but they didn’t provide enough warmth or sit well under her coat. This led to the creation of the double keyhole design. This innovative approach ensures the scarf stays in place and provides the necessary warmth without the bulk.

The Yarn
For this project, I used Red Heart Soft, a medium-weight category 4 acrylic yarn. It’s incredibly soft and comes in a wide range of colors, making it perfect for this scarf. Acrylic yarns are also easy to care for, which is a bonus. If you prefer other fibers, feel free to use your favorite medium-weight yarn in any color you love. The key is to create a scarf you’ll enjoy wearing, not one that stays hidden in your closet.
This scarf requires about 250 yards of yarn, making it a one-skein project if you use Red Heart Soft.
Construction
One of my favorite stitches, the Herringbone Double Crochet, is featured in this scarf. This stitch is an easy variation of the classic Double Crochet, making it a great choice for beginners. The scarf is crocheted lengthwise, which I find more satisfying as it shows progress faster compared to working widthwise, and makes adding the double keyhole feature much easier.

Versatility and Style
The double keyhole design, combined with the unique Herringbone Double Crochet stitch, makes this scarf versatile and stylish. It can be worn over a sweater or vest in the spring or fall for a touch of warmth, and it keeps your neck cozy in the winter under your coat. The Cranmore Scarf is a perfect example of how a simple design can be both functional and fashionable.
