I have been drawn to the Granite stitch (aka moss stitch or linen stitch) ever since I first saw it. Plus as a resident of the Granite state, I couldn't help but want to create pieces inspired by the stitch with the same name. However, I am also an impatient crocheter who doesn't want projects to take a lot of time. So I started exploring variations of the Granite stitch and stumbled upon a double crochet variation. The moment I paired it with a striping yarn, the vision came together—and the Rye Infinity Scarf was born.

The Yarn!
For this project, I turned to one of my go-to favorites—Lion Brand Mandala Ombre. The soft texture and gentle color transitions make this yarn a dream to work with. It glides effortlessly through your hands and gives every stitch wonderful definition.
Looking for alternatives or shopping your stash? Here are some great DK-weight options:
Lion Brand Mandala Sparkle, Baby, or Gradient
Lion Brand Pound of Love
Caron Skinny Cakes
These yarns all offer excellent drape and stitch clarity, making them ideal substitutes if Mandala Ombre isn’t your style.
Construction
The Rye Infinity Scarf is worked in the round, using only double crochet and chain stitches. It’s an intuitive, meditative pattern that you can easily follow while catching up on your favorite show or sipping coffee on the porch.
Because the stitch repeat is simple, this scarf works up quickly—perfect for makers who want satisfying results without committing to a long-haul project.
Customization
One of the best things about this pattern is how easily you can adapt it to fit your personal style. Here are a few ways to make it your own:
Looser or more fitted: Adjust the starting chain to customize the circumference.
Wider or slimmer: Add or subtract rows to change the width of the scarf.
Make it match your wardrobe: Choose colors that complement your favorite outfits or opt for neutrals that go with everything.
Go bold or go subtle: Use a self-striping yarn for visual interest or a solid shade to let the texture shine.
This is a true “maker’s pattern”—you control the final look.
