There are days in the fall and winter when I wish it was appropriate to go out of the house wearing a blanket. With the Highland Wrap crochet pattern, it is completely appropriate!

Throughout the winter, there are just some days when you simply do not want to wear a coat again. The Highland Wrap offers a perfect alternative, providing the coziness of a blanket with the elegance of a handmade piece.

The Yarn

I chose to make this wrap with one of my favorite yarns, Bernat Softee Chunky in the Grey Ragg colorway. I just love how the white and grey twisted strands worked up into such a beautiful piece. This yarn is not only incredibly soft and warm, but also super easy to care for, making it perfect for a cozy wrap

Construction

The Highland Wrap is worked in one solid piece, so there is no seaming and only two ends to weave in when you’re done! It uses a double crochet variation and a large hook so it grows quickly! This makes it an ideal project for those who want to see progress fast, (or are super impatient like me). Like many of my other designs, it is worked on the long edge, so you start on the left side of the piece and work across, ending with the right side.

This method of construction is perfect for relaxing evenings in the early to mid-fall.  You know that time of the year when you try to wait as long as possible to turn on the heat, or is that just a New England thing? As the piece grows it starts to cover your lap, keeping you warm even before it is finished!

Customization

Although it is a one-size piece, it can be easily adjusted for length or width if you need it larger or smaller. Simply add or subtract to the beginning chain or rows to achieve your desired size. Remember making these changes could result in needing more or less yarn than is listed in the pattern.

It will quickly become one of your favorite wraps as it is quite warm but not excessively heavy.
