February in New England can feel really Looong, and although we most likely aren't done with snow and cold weather, once we get to March, I start thinking about what I can crochet for spring. Hello, Treasure Bunny & Chick baskets. These baskets are the perfect size for sitting at the center of your table or using as favor baskets.
These charming little baskets are a wonderful addition to your spring crafting calendar. Perfectly sized for table centerpieces or favor baskets, they bring a dose of springtime cheer to your home. Whether you're decorating for Easter, celebrating the arrival of spring, or simply looking for an excuse to crochet something adorable, these baskets will steal your heart.

The Yarn
For these baskets, I used Bernat Softee Chunky yarn, which works beautifully to create sturdy and structured pieces. If you don't have Bernat Softee Chunky on hand, you can use alternatives like Lion Brand Hometown or Wool-Ease Thick & Quick. Keep in mind, though, that these alternatives might result in slightly smaller baskets, so adjust your expectations accordingly.
And what is better than a one skein project? Being able to make two baskets with just one skein of each color!
Construction
These baskets are a breeze to crochet! You need to understand how to crochet in the round, and that it. They're made in one piece, so there's no tedious assembly required. Once the main body is complete, you'll add the finishing touches—the bunny's tail, the chick's beak, and their sweet little eyes—by sewing them on.
This simplicity makes the baskets perfect for crocheters of all skill levels. Whether you're a beginner looking for a rewarding project or a seasoned crocheter aiming for quick results, these baskets are a super fun to make.
Customization
One of the best things about these baskets is how easily you can personalize them to match your style.
For the Bunny Basket, play around with a rainbow of pastel shades to bring out its playful spirit. If you're feeling adventurous, make the yarn pom-pom tail in a matching or contrasting color. Or swap out the yarn pom-pom tail completely for a faux fur pom-pom for an elegant touch that adds texture and visual interest.

For the Chick Basket, let your creativity shine! Instead of using safety eyes, consider options like buttons, felt, or embroidered eyes to give your chick a unique personality. This is a great way to add detail or incorporate materials you already have at home.
